Karl Ivar Berglund, he was born on Friday, 24 January 1890 in Firtby, Sund, Aländ Islands, Finland.

He left Finland 29 March 1912 and boarded the Titanic on 10 April 1912 in Southampton, he was 22 years old. He paid £9 7s for ticket number 4348, a third class ticket.

He died in the sinking according to recorded information, his body was never recovered.

His extended family came from the Aländ Islands. Ethnically they were Swedish though the island were an autonomous part of Finland. It is likely he would have settled in Norwood or Walpole Massachusetts where the majority of other members of our connected families settled and started a community and church.

Recently I also found a web site [www.nordicspotlight.com] which has an article published on 29 March 2012 by Michelle Rea Anderson with a post card sent by Karl Ivar to his family in the Aländ Islands on which he wrote in part,

“Seeing that I have time now I must tell you that I’m here in Southampton now on Whit Monday…… So that I will be in New York before next Monday. My journey has gone fine all the way."
