Augusta-CSRA Vietnam War Veterans Memorial

his site depicts a model of the recently approved design for the Vietnam War Memorial, which is planned to be built in Augusta, Georgia. The Vietnam War Memorial Initiative (VWMI) Mission is to "Purchase and place a permanent memorial to Augusta-Central Savanah River Area (CSRA) Vietnam Veterans in downtown Augusta, Georgia that honors the service and sacrifice of these American heroes!" *************************************************************************************************** The memorial is projected to have a total of ten engraved panels. Two panels (left and right of the front center panel) will contain the names of the 160 CSRA service members who died in Vietnam, the front center panel will depict a map of the Vietnam War Theater of Operations, and the front far left and far right panels will depict “The Three Soldiers” statue in Washington, D.C., Ronald Reagan’s tribute to those who fought in Vietnam, a summary of the military casualties in Vietnam, and a listing of the CSRA’s three former Prisoners of War (POW), and one Missing in Action (MIA). The five rear panels will include a tribute to each of the five branches of the armed services and the identification of the 18 CSRA community service organizations which comprise the Military Order of the World Wars’ VWMI multi-organizational Steering Committee.
