Neil Armstrong

Korean War · US Navy

United States of America
O

n July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the moon. Before his momentous first steps, Armstrong served as a naval aviator in the Korean War and flew in the Gemini 8 mission. After he took that “one small step,” Armstrong continued to work at NASA, taught as a professor at the University of Cincinnati, and was awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. He continues to live a private life and avoids media attention. Armstrong remains one of the most famous astronauts in world history, but he does not wish to capitalize on his fame, and instead lets the legacy of the moon landing speak for itself.
