ale R. Buis is the first name inscribed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. Major Buis died on July 8, 1959, when Vietnamese terrorists attacked a military base in Bien Hoa. Buis and five other men were watching a movie when, at intermission, assassins attacked and killed Major Buis and Sergeant Chester Ovnand.
