Sgt Fox was originally part of Lt. Raymond A Feely's crew when they were still in the 819th Bomb Squadron. He became part of Lt. Wolcott's Crew after the transfer to the 392nd Bomb Squadron. He was later part of Lt. Russell E Reeves Flight Crew.

T/Sgt Allen T Fox was the Tail Gunner in the Wolcott flight crew. The Wolcott crew was one of the original twelve flight crews in the 392nd Bombardment Squadron. They began combat duty in Nov 1943 on Canton in the Phoenix Islands. Their targets included Jaluit, Mille, Wotje, and Maloelap. The squadron moved their base to Apamama in Jan 1944, then moved again in Mar 1944 to Kwajalein. They completed their required 30 missions in mid-1944 and returned to the US for a 30 day furlough before being reassigned.

The plane flown by the Wolcott crew was called The LITTLE GENERAL (#42-73030).

January 24 (Delayed) — Back in Hawaii, for a short rest, after flying 13 missions, the crew of “The Little General.” a B-24 Liberator of Brig. Gen. Truman H. Landon’s 7th Bomber Command, has the story to tell of the unique experience of nearly being blown out of the sky by their own bomb. This little affair happened over Wotje on the third mission the crew had ever been on. The bombardier, 2nd Lt. Walt Fish, 27, Portland, Ore., had just tripped the bomb release sending his eggs toward the island below when an antiaircraft shell scored an accidental hit on one of their 500 pound bombs, about 200 feet beneath their plane. The “General" was thrown up as though a giant hand had grabbed it. Pilot, 2nd Lt. E. S. Wolcott, 23, Grand Rapids, Mich., states he had no control over the plane at all. Assistant radio operator. Staff Sergeant Walter A. Schroeder, 21. Methuen, Mass., called to the pilot naively, “I think we've been hit.” Wolcott replied. “I know damn well we have.” Second Lt. J. S. Webb, 20. Jacksonville. Fla., copilot, gave the order to throw all excess baggage and ammunition overboard. The crew not only did this but also got rid of the waist guns and Lt. Webb's flight jacket at the same time. On the way home the number one engine cut out a few miles from the home base and the crew threw all their equipment overboard, and prepared for a water landing. About this time they sighted the home base. There was only 40 gallons of gas in the tanks when they came in for a landing. The plane had a total of nearly 200 holes in it by actual count. The navigator. 2nd Lt. C. H. Pestana, 23, Oakland, Cal. claimed the plane was so badly damaged that they thought they would lose it. To a crew member of an airplane that is almost as bad as losing a member of their family. They really become attached to those crates! The boys in the sub depot were able to fix the plane up so that she has now returned to combat. "After the first raid the crew got very religious.” Webb says. "Fish generally carries along a Bible and reads from it for the crew. The first time he did that I broke up the services by informing the crew that a flock of about 20 Zeros were approaching at 10 o'clock. Plane Rewarded For Sinking Of Japan Freighter

7TH AAF HEADQUARTERS. CENTRAL PACIFIC. July 6 — "Little General", a 7th AAF Liberator bomber, has earned $900 worth of war bonds for its crew by sinking a 4.000 ton Japanese freighter in the eastern Carolines. Lt. Charles H. Pestano. Oakland. Cal., navigator of "Little General", in a few days will call on W. M Maxfield, San Francisco, an attorney, to get the bond. Mr. Maxfield promised the reward if they would sink a Japanese ship as they were leaving Hamilton field last October for combat duty in the central Pacific.

The Japanese freighter was a secondary target. The mission was an attack against Ponape, but enroute a severe tropical storm was encountered during which the Squadron of 7th AAF Liberators were scattered ever a wide area. The squadron commander ordered three of the bombers, including "Little General", to hit Kusaie Island instead. “In Lele Harbor," Lt Pestano said, “we spotted two Jap vessels under full draft. The larger ship, about 4,000 tons, appeared to be heavily loaded and was twisting and turning frantically. “We made our bomb run on it and got six direct hits with 100 pound bombs. It sank almost immediately.” The crew of Little General is returning to the United States for a 30 day leave and will pick up their bonds on arrival in San Francisco.
