Jack B. Newman was a Technical Sergeant in the Army during World War II. Jack resided in Oakland County, Michigan before enlisting on December 2, 1942. At the time of enlistment, Jack was 18 years old, had 4 years of high school education and was single, without dependents. Two years later, Jack was captured by Nazi Germany while serving in Yugoslavia, and was sent to Stalag 17B near Krems, Austria where 3,219 other American POWs were held. Jack's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on March 24, 1944, and the last report was made on May 30, 1945.
