DeMay, 447thSqdn. led the formation.One element claimed direct hits.Others reported target well covered.Much smoke came from Abbey.Two bursts seen on northeast slope of hill and some west of target.Due to cloud layers over base, formation was split, with result that only twelve planes dropped bombs.Flak was heavy, intense, accurate at target.Three fighters were seen at target, but did not attack.Lt. Kerrdid not take off because of bursted oil line.The following ships returned early because of weather:Capt. Cooper, Major Hunter, Lt. Brellenthin, Lt. Morris, Lt. Herbert, Lt Walker and Lt. Dickson.
