"DAVID J. STOLLERY

For many years David J. Stollery of San Mateo has been actively and prominently identified with the land and livestock interests of California and in business circles is regarded as a man of marked ability and ripe judgment. He is a native of London, England, where his birth occurred on the 6th of August, 1880, and is a son of John and Maria (Howell) Stollery. His father, who is now deceased, was an architect and artist by profession and a man of large accomplishment.

David J. Stollery received his educational training at the Ion House school and in private schools, and for seven years thereafter was with a firm of chartered accountants in London, where he gained valuable experience. In 1903 he came to America, settling first in Canada, where for two years he devoted his attention to farming. He then came to California and for twenty-two years has been assistant to the president and secretary of the William H. Howard Estate Company. In other relations also he has served in important capacities, having been for four years secretary of the California Cattlemen's Association, two years editor of the "California Cattleman," for twenty years secretary of the Howard Cattle Company, up to the time of its dissolution, and for ten years secretary of the Howard Ranch Company. In 1916 he was one of the founders of the California Shorthorn Breeders' Association, of which he was secretary for four years. In 1923 Mr. Stollery became general manager of the Hillsborough Park Company, of San Mateo, and in 1926 was one of the organizers of the Hillsborough Park Investment Company. He is interested in a large tract of Hillsborough land, which is being developed, and in various ways has been active and successful in promoting the progress and improvement of his community, in which operations he has shown superior judgement and marked executive ability.

In 1906 Mr. Stollery was united in marriage to Miss Eudora Winifred Smith, a native of England, and they are the parents of four children, David John, who is a senior in Leland Stanford University, Edward Wilfrid, Joseph Gordon and Frederick Arnold. Aside from his individual interests, Mr. Stollery has shown a commendable disposition to cooperate in all matters affecting the general welfare, and during the World war served as secretary of the federal livestock commission of the United States food administration of California. A man of earnest purpose, keen discrimination, straightforward manner and great energy, he has gained distinction as one of the most progressive and enterprising citizens of his section of San Mateo county."
