EARL CUMMESKY

A funeral Mass will be celebrated today in San Rafael for Earl F. Cummesky, a retired identification specialist for the Marin County Sheriff's Department.

Cummesky, a resident of Rohnert Park for 15 years, died Tuesday after a short illness. He was 75.

A native of San Rafael, he was educated in Marin County and attended College of Marin. He served in the Navy during World War II.

Cummesky worked for the Marin County Sheriff's Department for 31 years before retiring in 1977. He was head of the department's Identification Section and was a handwriting and fingerprinting expert.

He was active in Little League Baseball and was honored by the Kiwanis Club for 15 years of coaching. He was a hunter and fisherman and with his children spent time in the outdoors at the family hideaway in Plumas County.

In retirement, he and his wife, Shirley, traveled. They returned in July from a six-week trip through the Midwest. He also enjoyed bingo and working crossword puzzles, was active at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Rohnert Park, and was a member of the American Legion and the Marin County Peace Officers' Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Michael Cummesky, San Rafael; Bob Cummesky and Paul Cummesky, both of Rohnert Park; Jim Cummesky, Fairfax; and Maureen Andrews, Cedar Grove, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Ghirenghelli, San Rafael, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Rosary was recited Thursday at Keaton Mortuary in San Rafael. Today's Mass will be held at 1 p.m. at St. Raphael's Church in San Rafael. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

The family requests donations be made to St. Elizabeth Seton Building Fund in Rohnert Park.
