Pole Vault Ace Irving W. Moore

Lafayette landscape contractor Irving W. Moore, who won national pole vaulting titles for Santa Rosa Junior College and the San Francisco Olympic Club in the 1940s, died recently of a heart attack on a Mexico vacation.

Funeral and burial services were held at San Blas where he died while swimming Feb. 14.

Mr. Moore won the national junior college pole vaulting crown for Santa Rosa JC in 1942. In 1943, competing for the Olympic Club, he won in pole vaulting at the AAU junior national track championships. In 1946, he took first place in the AAU senior national and was among the AAU all-American track selections.

He served as a navy flight instructor during World War II, then entered the coffee business In San Francisco and later became owner of the Orinda Willows restaurant.

Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Bettie; two tons. James, of Alaska, and Rickey of Santa Barbara; a daughter, Marcie of Santa Barbara, and his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Moore of Oakland.
