SOUTHBURY - Gene J. Tito, Ph.D., 82, of 624 Roxbury Road, Southbury, died Friday, April 14, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Helen (Hale) Tito and the late Betty (Malone) Tito.

Mr. Tito was born Aug. 23, 1923, in New Haven, son of the late Frank and Margaret (Murio) Tito. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and was a college professor, teaching economics at Mattatuck Community College. He also owned a Nationwide Insurance Agency franchise. A longtime resident of Southbury, he was an active communicant of Sacred Heart Church, where he was a former usher, reader and member of the Social Concerns Committee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor William J. Collins Council 5066 and the Lions Club.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Gene J. Tito Jr. of Winsted and William J. Tito of Southbury; a stepson, George William Hale III of Woodbury; a sister, Rose Tito of Branford; and eight grandsons.

Arrangements: Memorial Mass 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. South, Southbury. There are no calling hours. Arrangements by Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main St. South, Southbury.
