Bernice Lynn Hicks

Bernice Lynn Hicks was born 27 June 1911 in Bumpass, Louisa County, Virginia. . His parents were Robert Lynn Baker and Fannie Bell Stanley. On June 24, 1940 Bernice married Elsie Louise Butler. They were both single, Bernice, age 27, Elsie, age 19.

On Bernice’s WWII Draft Registration card, he is described as weighing 155 pounds, dark complexion, blue eyes, black hair and five feet seven inches tall. His occupation is working for the State Highway Department.

Bernice enlisted in the Army on March 19, 1945 in Richmond, Va.

On Bernice death certificate he is listed as married, a Private in the US Army. He died of a suicidal intent with an unsound mind. The incident occurred in the Valley Forge General Hospital, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. He climbed up an electrical pole 50 feet to a transformer platform. There he touched the high tension wire and fell to the ground. He died of a fracture and electrical 3rd degree burns.

His death date was 16 June 1945. He was interred at Trinity Episcopal Christian Church in Beaverdam, Virginia.
