WWII Veteran, Ed Doyle (1/15/1922 – 7/10/2017) of Wewahitchka, Florida by son, Major "Bob" Robert Allen Doyle, US Army Retired.

World War II Veteran, Master Chief Engineman, Charles Edward (ED) Doyle passed away peacefully, early Monday moringin at his home in Wewahitchka, Florida. Ed was born 15 January 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1937, at the age of 15 he shipped out aboard the cable ship, the Edquard Jeremac as a Cabin boy and deck hand that made runs to Nicaragua. In 1939, at 17, he went to the 1939 San Francisoc Worlds Fair. While 17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. On December 7 1941, the first day of World War II Ed Doyle joined the US Navy until he retired as a Master Chief Engineman in June of 1966. At which time he became a Postman in Blountstown until he hug up his mail courier bag for final retirement.

Ed Doyle influenced many in his long life. He was a member of The Panama City Chapter of the Florida Society Sons of the American Revolution, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and known by many in both Bay and Gulf County from his involvement with gem, mineral, and rock collecting clubs nationwide. He was also a long time volunteer weather reporter supporting Channell 13, (WMBB), with his local Wewahitchka weather reports. For many years, he was instrumental in the organization and running of the local Gulf County Boy Scout troop and served as a long time Gulf County Boy Scout leader seeing many local boys grow into adulthood and their own retirement. As a Master Gardener for the University of Florida, Ed helped many residents establish their own gardens. He was always present at Gulf County election time as he served as a deputy Sheriff helping to direct confused voters. Many Wewa residents have dined on the luscious vegetables that he and his bride sold from their home garden near the local IGA store near them.

Chief Doyle is survived by his bride Nelia of over 70 years, their only child Major Bob Doyle, US Army (Ret.), his wife Maggie, Grandchildren, Wendy Cruz, Brad Doyle, Brandy Doyle, Elena Doyle, Christopher Harper, ten Greatgrandchildren, two Great, Great Gandchildren, and one Great, great, great grandchild. All he touched will dearly miss Ed’s presence. Burial services will be on 12 July at Buckhorn Cemetary, Wewhitchka, Florida, on 389 Brian Setterich Road. His family and Friends would appreciate your prayers.
