James ST Jones

James ST Jones, was a young man, who became enlisted into the civil war as a Confederate soldier under the sixth cavalry. Before, Mr.Jones became a soldier he was just a farmer from the Southern state of Virginia.He would later on experience how life on the battlefield could be during the time period of the Civil War.

.The Life of James ST Jones explained through the Census 1860 records. These records provide a brief description of James St Jones life during that time period. Mr.Jones was born in 1835 and lived in South District, Pittsylvania, Virginia borderline to North Carolina. In 1860 Pittsylvania had the highest population of slaves in the state. He was 25 years old and a farmer before becoming enlisted as a Confederate soldier. In Mr.Jones’ household there was also another male by the name of Paschal C. Lane, who was 21 years according to the records. Whether Mr.Lane was related to Mr.Jones was not provided.

In 1860 James ST Jones went off to train at a camp named Camp Ashland that is located in Nebraska for approximately two years. This camp was considered the headquarters of the 209th regional training camp institution, where Mr.Jones trained from May 27 through June 30 in 1860.He was sent home for a year and recalled again in 1862.On February 16th Mr.Jones relocated to Camp Allegheny located in West Virginia, where he started his training again.Soon after, he received a pay of fifty dollars to join the war for the Battle of Donelson from the Confederate state.Furthermore, Mr.Jones soon started to experience some difficulty with his health on December 18,1862 Spring Garden, Virginia. He spent fifteen days absent the case being, he had several visits to the hospital for chronic diarrhea for 3 months. During the time period medical needs were not as beneficial or advance. In result, the a soldier’s experienced harsh conditions during the war. After being in battle Mr.Jones became absent, his health condition became more severe.He was admitted in the C.S.A General Hospital, Danville, Virginia. On March 27,1863 he returned to Camp Allegany. For the times that Mr.Jones could not attend to his duty, the Confederate state issued to pay for a horse that would be given to him in 1863. The horse was given to him as a way of paying him for his service.

The battle of Donelson was lead by Brigadier General John Floyd, a general who lead the men through a lost battle.This event took place from February 11-16 in 1862. The war resulted in the confederates to surrender forts in Tennessee to the Union.On May 4,1864 Mr.Jones died at Yellow Tavern, Virginia from suffering through having the disease of chronic diarrhea before he could be serve in the Battle of Yellow Tavern.

To summarize the living legacy of James ST Jones he was Confederate soldier that did not live that longer after the civil war. He was granted the opportunity to join the war and he took it. Even though, he had a tough time with his health that did not completely stop him from serving in the Civil War.
