The demise of J. M. Ebersole occurred at his home near Kinsley early on Monday morning. Mr. Ebersole had been suffering for a long time from Bright's disease and consequent maladies and his death was not unexpected. He was one of the early settlers of Edwards county, and one of its best citizens. He was born at Canton, Ohio and was 52 years of age.

Mr. Ebersole had served his country faithfully and well as a soldier in Co. F, 126th regiment of Ohio volunteer infantry. He enlisted in this military organization on August 6, 1862 and was mustered out of the service as a sergeant on June 25, 1865, at the close of the war. Soon after the organization of the Grand Army of the Republic he was made commander of the post at Canton and mustered Major William McKinley, the statesman and presidential candidate, in as a member.

Mr. Ebersole's funeral took place from the family residence on Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Gilchrist, pastor of the Congregational church, preached the sermon and the services were largely attended. At the cemetery the funeral cortege was received by the members of the T. O. Howe Post, G.A.R. No. 241, of which deceased became a member in 1887, and by a detachment of Ellsworth Camp Sons of Veterans. The latter under the command of Captain Watson fired the farewell volleys of musketry over the grave.

The obsequies throughout were impressive and indicative of the sincere respect in which deceased was held in the community where he had so long lived; and of the reverent regard of his neighbors for the memory of a good man.
