1st Sgt Bobo enlisted into the army on December 27, 1867, in New York NY. He was described as 5'6" tall, brown eyes, hazel eyes with a fair complexion. His civilian occupation was listed as clerk.

On February 5, 1868, he was assigned to Company C, 7th US Cavalry at Ft Leavenworth, KS. Company C was commanded by two time Medal of Honor recipient, Capt Tom Custer. Capt Custer was also the brother of LTC George Armstrong Custer. Bobo was to become one of the regiment's most senior sergeants & was a veteran of the Battle of the Washita.

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn Bobo was the 1st Sergeant of Company C. Though Capt Tom Custer was the commanding officer, on that day he had been assigned as an aide to his brother. In Capt Custer's absence, the inexperienced Lt Henry Harrington took command of the company. Bobo was killed sometime during the fighting.

Interestingly after the battle, Bobo's body was not found near the bodies of soldiers from Company C. Instead his body was found near that of Capt Myles Keogh, Commanding Officer of Company I. On the day of the battle, Capt Keogh had commanded the right wing of Custer's battalion. Company C and Company I were part of the right wing.

Sgt Bobo was initially buried where he had been found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.

Sgt Bobo was survived by his wife and two children. On April 12, 1877, Sgt Daniel Kanipe, also a member of the 7th Cavalry and veteran of the Battle of the Little Bighorn, married Bobo's widow. Bobo and Kanipe had been close friends. On April 14, 1879, his widow was awarded a pension.
