Jack served as a Staff Sergeant & Pilot on L-5 #42-98863, 71 Liaison Squad, 1st Reconnaissance Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 17, 1942 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.

L-5 #42-98863 was on a special mission for the O.S.S. Detachment 101, APO 218 at the time of his flight. They left Myitkyina, Burma on October 25, 1944 with a destination of Nawngpu-Awng, Burma. Either due to darkness or possibly running out of fuel they crashed near Shaduzup, Burma during the war.

Jack and his passenger, 1st Sgt. Karl A. Snyder, were captured by the Japanese and sent to the Rangoon POW camp in Myanmar (Burma).

Jack "Died While A POW" of the Japanese Army of either acute indigestion or appendicitis at the Rangoon camp during the war. He was interred there in grave # 218.

He was awarded the Air Medal, Purple Heart, and the Prisoner of War medal.
