COLUMBIA — Frances Emory Jones Tokaz, 84, of Columbia, SC, died Tuesday
evening, November 8, 2005. Born in Ward, SC, she was the oldest daughter of
Harold C. Jones, Sr. and Iva Eargle Jones of Saluda, SC. Mrs. Tokaz was
predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Col. A.E. “Tik” Tokaz of Walpole, MA.
    The funeral service will be held at the Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church in
Saluda on Saturday, November 12, at 1 p.m. The service will be preceded by
the visitation at noon. The service will be conducted by Pastor Eddie C.
Miller, Jr. The pallbearers in attendance will be Mike Moyer, Rhett Moyer, Hal
Moyer, Kelly Baldwin, Curtis Hensley, Chris Howe and Fred Meetze.
     The Tokaz family will receive family and friends at the Columbia home of
Mrs. Tokaz at 3601 Overcreek Road on Friday, November 11, 2005, from 5 p.m. to
8 p.m.    Mrs. Tokaz attended Newberry College and the University of South Carolina.
She met her husband when he was stationed at the Columbia Army Air Field on
March 2, 1940, and they were married June 8th that same year. She and her
husband moved frequently during his military career. They lived initially in
Columbia and then moved on to Hampton, Va,, Baltimore, Tampa, Yokohama,
Japan, New York, Albuquerque, Warner Robins, Ga., New Orleans and Washington,
D.C., until his retirement from the Air Force and their return to Columbia in

     Mrs. Tokaz worked in Columbia initially as the administrative assistant to
the director of the Columbia YWCA. Later, she would work many years for the
Tapps Department Store with her last position as Branch Supervisor of the
Tapps Store at Trenham Plaza before her retirement. For many years she also
served as a substitute teacher at Spring Valley High School. Mrs. Tokaz was a
wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She was very talented in her hobby of
sewing and making clothes for her family and friends. She was an active
member of the Columbia Gem and Mineral Society and along with her husband was a
charter and lifetime member of the Gem Club.
     Mrs. Tokaz was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother. Her kind, gentle
and understanding ways endeared her to all who knew her. She was surrounded
by those she dearly loved and those who loved her. Her children and
grandchildren will always remember her love and selfless devotion to them. Her
relatives and friends will always remember the love, loyalty and kindness she
had for them. Her values and memories will remain with us forever.
    Mrs. Tokaz is survived by her sons, John Charles Tokaz of Playa Del Rey, CA
and Arthur Tik Tokaz and wife Jeanette of Huntsville, AL, daughter Terri
Jayne Tokaz of Columbia, SC, sisters, Sherry Jones Ash of Atlanta, GA, Ethelyn
Jones Moyer and husband Everett of Gilbert, SC and Doris Jones Baldwin of
Cayce, SC. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren, 15 nieces and nephews and
their children.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Columbia Gem and Mineral
Society Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 6333, Columbia, SC 29260 and the Celebrate
Freedom Foundation, 455 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
    The family would like to thank the staff of National Healthcare - Parklane
for their loving care and attention to our mother during her stay with them.
