Civil War - MA 54th Infantry Regiment Records
The records include letters and endorsements sent and received; orders issued and received; descriptive lists; quarterly, monthly, and annual returns; muster rolls; and miscellaneous papers. Men in the 54th were predominantly black, though most officers were white. The regiment was formed early in 1863, trained near Boston, and ultimately saw action in South Carolina later that year.
