J Maurice Wiginton enlisted 7 April 1942, in Lubbock Texas. He was born in Texas in 1916, and at the time of enlistment, he lived at 1211 N Madison St. Dallas Texas. He entered directly into the AAC, having completed 3 years of college, and was married.

1944 | Italy James Maurice Wiginton was destined to be a Pilot, later, he was destined to be a Leader of men, a FRIEND to all, and had a rough exterior and a heart so strong, he could tear into someone if it would save their life later, and hold a grown man through the greatest Tragedy of all, the "calculated risk of WAR" …..Friends that did not come back.

1 Feb 44: assigned to the 447th BS – he was 2nd Lt when assigned. It was no time at all that Maurice went from 2nd Lt, to 1st Lt… from the Pilot of his ship, the the Pilot leading the Squadron Mission, then the GROUP Missions… He had great natural sense, intuition and was good at "immediate" decisions and "Strong" Commands that led his men and ships through some really rough "Going in" and Coming Out" Combat Missions.

447th BS War Diary: 1st Lt. Saiers trfd to U.S. per Ltr. 12th AF dated 1 Feb 1944. T/Sgts O’Mara and Mellado were on the same order. 2Lts. Wiginton, Murray, Martin, S/Sgt. Reynolds, Sgt Rogowski, Pvt. Edwards assg this sq. Feb 1, 1944, SO 23, Hq 321 Bomb Gp. Cpl M.G. Stahl trfd to 12th Bomber Command.

Lt Wiginton had 'favorite' Ships, the "Girls" we loved…. Reddie Teddie…. MMR…. Ave Maria, some FUN Ships like the "Superstitous Al-O-Isius" and others.
