Family History Story from "Pauline Ambrose Lyon-Boatright Lifestory" pg 33 written by Cody Lyon-Boatright Allen

Pauline knew that Dick had been in the Navy Aircorp and she thought he had been a gunner. Dick had lied about his age to get into the Navy, so all his legal documents say he was born in 1926. During the war he had been in an air crash and had been hospitalized for a back injury. Dick would wear a back brace off and on for years following. Years later when Virginia Lyon Brookbush wrote her book “Dreams and Duties” she would tell a story concerning her brother’s activities during the war. The story was that he had been involved with the 1946 nuclear experiments taking place in the Pacific. The experiment included the dropping of two nuclear bombs on and near Bikini Island. The concussion from the dropping of one of the bombs had blasted the plane Dick was in out of the sky. He was hospitalized for a time and then returned home. When he arrived home in 1946 he did have a wound at the lower end of his spine. No one knows for sure if this tale is true or not.
