He served on the USS Constitution under Capt. Nicholson during our brief war with France 1798-1800.

Commissioned Sailing Master on June 30, 1799

Retained in the Navy under the Peace Establishment Act of 1801 and ordered to remain aboard USS Constitution.

He was appointed to Command the USS Constitution on June 18, 1802, to prepare her for action.

Relieved of command by Commodore Edward Preble on May 14, 1803 and remained aboard as Sailing Master and sailed to the Mediterranean Sea to fight the Barbary Pirates August 14, 1803

He was cited for gallantry in action during the siege of Tripoli on August 14, 1804 and received the rank of Lieutenant.

Left the USS Constitution and arrived aboard USS John Adams October 28, 1804 and sailed back to the USA.

He was ordered to command Gunboat # 8 on March 22, 1805 in Boston and he sailed back to Tripoli May 1805.

He was assigned to the Washington D.C. Navy yard Oct 3 1806.

He reported to the Norfolk Virginia Navy Yard July 3 1807, he then later returned to the Washington D.C. Navy Yard.

Nathaniel Haraden retired from the Navy at Washington D.C. Navy Yard in 1817 as Master Commandant.

He died January 19, 1818 and left a widow Susan (Devericks) Haraden and three children, Mary D. Haraden dau. of his first wife Mary Domak , Eliza and Emma Haraden from his second wife Susan.
