Patrick Ambrose Cavanagh, nickname "Brose". He rode his pony a lot on the farm in DeWitt, Clinton County, Washington Twp.,Iowa. He called his pony Ponce. He loved to play baseball and basketball but sprained his ankles a lot. This was detrimental. Pat was a sensitive considerate thoughtful child and as a young man. He was good looking and a beautiful dancer. He picked up all the social graces and the nuns thought him to be the perfect date at their girl's school. Pat helped me in ways of sound judgment and encouragement. To me, my brother Pat was a sweet tempered good friend. As a boy he would talk in Pig Latin.

Pig latin is a constructed language game where words in English are altered according to a simple set of rules. Pig Latin takes the first consonant (or consonant cluster) of an English word, moves it to the end of the word and suffixes an ay (IPA {er}) (for example, pig yields igpay, banana yields ananabay, and trash yields ashtray). Thomas Jefferson wrote letters to friends in Pig Latin. Pig Latin is mostly used by people for amusement or to converse in perceived privacy from other persons. A few Pig Latin words, such as ixnay (nix), amscray (scram), and upidstay (stupid), have been incorporated into American English slang.
