Edward Selig Salomon Best known for Territorial Governor

Salomon, Caroline Samuels Military Service At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted in the 24th Illinois Infantry and was commissioned an officer. In August 1862, he joined the 82nd Illinois Regiment made up of immigrants, two-thirds being German, and was appointed Lieutenant Colonel. He became a hero during the Battle of Gettysburg, became in permanent command of the 82nd Illinois in 1864 and led the regiment during the Atlanta Campaign. For his distinguished service he was brevetted Brigadier General of US Volunteers on March 13, 1865.
