2nd Lt. Wasilewski was the bombardier aboard a B-17 G (#42-31250) "Mag the Hag" based at RAF Podington, Northamptonshire, England (Army Air Station 109) on bombing mission to Altenberg, Germany. The aircraft was shot down at 1230 hrs. by a German fighter over Neustädt, Gerstungen, Wartburgkreis, Germany while leaving the bombing area. Only one crewman was able to parachute from the aircraft. The remains of 8 airmen were buried in the cemetery in Neustädt.

The remains of the crew were recovered in 2008 and buried in Arlington in 2012. He is also memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at the Netherlands American Cemetery at Margraten as well as at Saint Casimir Catholic Cemetery, Chicago, IL.
