Evan Lloyd Murray was born in Columbus, Ohio 21 May, 1925, one of 13 siblings. Lloyd attended Primary Flight School at Santa Ana Army Air Base, CA. and graduated from Advanced Flight School at Williams Field, Az. (Nov. '44, Class 44-I) From there he was assigned to the 321st Bomb Group at Columbia, SC.

Lloyd arrived at Falconara, Italy in March 1945 and was assigned to the 445th Bomb Squadron. F/O Lloyd Murray flew in the right seat for one Combat Mission in late April 1945 ( # G013 ) over the Po Valley. He said that the Anti-Aircraft Fire and the FLAK was SO Heavy that he was glad it was only one Mission ! The War ended shortly there-after.

Lloyds Nephew, Joe P Murray said that his Uncle Lloyd was his favorite, and that he wishes that he had asked more about his service. Joe's father Larry (72 in Oct. '08) gave Joe a Crew Photo and Joe built a B-25 Model which he proudly displayed in his room, the model and photo next to each other….. one time in 1975, Uncle Lloyd came for a visit and Joe's Dad suggested he show Uncle Lloyd his Model ! Lloyd broke down and cried, he had never spoke of the war, and there were his War-Buddies ! Joe knew that his Uncle's Ship was a B-25 J model and had it exactly right. Joe gave the photo to his Uncle and Lloyd promised it would always be Joe's and one day he would have it back.

That day came too soon, as Lloyd had a heart attack and passed on 7 May, 1995. . . . 50 years to the Day of the German Surrender, thus ending War in the European Theatre.

It is the devotion to the memory of Joe's Uncle that there are photo's and stories provided and now placed here and in the 57th Bomb Wing (see "Links" to the left) so the world will know of this, one of millions of our WW II Heroes.
