WII Prisoner of War. Attended West Point for a period but did not graduate before heading to Europe after the D-Day invasion. He was just 19 years old before being captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge. He was originally listing as missing. Jack escaped while on a forced march with two other soldiers --- thanks to the kindness of one of their German guards. They were digging trenches and would have been shot the next morning had they not escaped behind German lines. A German grandmother agreed to hide them in her barn if they agreed to take her grandson with them to surrender so he would not be conscripted into the German army.
