Andrew J. Ward, age 36, was enlisted as Private on April 2nd, 1862 in Captain McLean’s Company, Company H (Union Rebels), 6th Regiment Florida Infantry by J. J. Finley at Mount Vernon Arsenal, Florida, for a period of 3 years or the war. (Company Muster Roll for April 2nd to April 21st, 1862).

He is reported absent on Company Muster Roll for April 1st to July 1st, 1862. This roll documents him absent on sick furlough.

He is reported discharged from service on the Company Muster Roll for June 30th through November 12th, 1862. This Roll documents being discharged August 9th, 1862 at Knoxville, Tennessee by order of General E. K. Smith.

He appears on a List of men of the 6th Florida Regiment discharged for disability, evidence of which was forwarded to General S. Cooper, A. Gen’s, C.S.A., bu J. J. Finley, Col. Comd’g 6th Fla. Reg’t. List dated Hdqrs, 6th Fla. Reg’t, Camp Kirby Smith, Knoxville, Tenn., Aug. 12, 1862.

Disability was given as "an injury to the knee joint which renders it useless".
